This work was born in a moment of sadness, loneliness, and inner struggle.
It represents that silent battle that many go through without always daring to name it: the fight against dark thoughts, against despair, against the feeling of being alone in the face of what overwhelms us.
The figure in the center has wings. They are not there to erase her vulnerability, but to remind her of her identity: that of a child of God. She cries, she doubts, she seems tired, but she remains enveloped in a divine dimension. Fragile, but not abandoned. Wounded, but still standing.
Behind her, the light of God descends. It does not come from the front, like an easily visible truth. It comes from behind, like a presence that watches in the invisible. Like a soft voice whispering:
"Even if you don't see me, I am here."
In the sky, the doves evoke the Holy Spirit. They remind us that, even in the heart of inner struggle, she is not alone. A gentle, faithful, and comforting presence remains above her, like a breath of peace in the midst of the battle.
Before her, dark chasms open in the ground. They represent those shadows that pull downwards, what frightens, what tries to swallow hope. But they do not dominate the scene. They exist, they are visible, but they are not victorious.
This painting speaks of spiritual warfare in its most intimate truth... moving forward when you are afraid, believing when you feel nothing, staying turned towards the light even when darkness seems to be the only thing before you.
It reminds us that God is not absent in dark seasons. Sometimes, His light is not before our eyes. Sometimes, it is behind us, it covers us, it keeps us, it prevents us from falling further.
This work, for me, echoes Psalm 139:5-12
5 You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
